Annual scholarship to be presented to AHAI youth player...

AMARILLO, TX

The Counterman family have been contemplating ways that they could give back to the community in memory of their son, Jon-Jon who tragically left this world in 2017.

Jon-Jon was an avid hockey player and was a part of the Amarillo “Hockey Family” for a long time. He developed some of his best friendships through the game and blessed our program with his kindness and contagious smile.

The Counterman family will be donating a scholarship each season in Jon-Jon’s memorial to go to a future AHAI player to help cover the cost of playing hockey. More specific details on how the scholarship will work, will be announced soon.

“Jon-Jon always thought of others before himself. This annual scholarship is a perfect way to give back. That boy loved the ice, his teammates and coaches. We thank AHAI for their continued efforts in honoring Jon-Jon’s life”, expresses Jon-Jon’s mother, Pamela Counterman.

“We are so excited and honored to be a part of Jon-Jon’s memory. Many future youth hockey players will benefit from playing our great game because of the Counterman’s generosity”, explains the Executive Director of AHAI, Austin Sutter.

Our members miss Jon-Jon’s smile and positive personality. Our players continue to remember him and look up to him as a great teammate and friend.

2020-2021 AHAI Coaching Application Now Open

By AHAI 04/24/2020, 5:30pm CDT

Deadline to apply is May 15th, 2020

The Amarillo Hockey Association (AHAI) has officially opened up the 2020- 2021 Coaching Application.

As we continue to grow the demand for volunteer coaches increases. We are always looking for positive leaders, mentors and people willing to learn the game of hockey regardless of experience.

AHAI understands that the coaches are the lifeblood to our program. Much of our success in developing young athletes and future community leaders relies on the ability and capabilities of our coaches.

If you are interested in helping at any capacity, please submit an application. We have been very lenient for years with following the deadline. This season we will not extend the deadline and it is your responsibility to fill out the application on time to be considered for a position.

Please do your best to fill out the online application with as much detail as possible. If you don’t have exact course completion dates, please estimate the best you can.

All required training, modules, courses, safe sport certification and background checks will be required for all coaches. We will work with you to get these items completed and fully certified as a USA Hockey coach. If you are a brand-new coach with nothing completed, we can work with you to get you certified by the start of next season.

All applications will be reviewed by the Hockey Operations Board and coaches who have applied will be contacted individually after decisions for each team, and program have been established.

AHAI reserves the right to change the coaching application process at anytime if it is in the best interest of the hockey program.

The Deadline to apply is May 15th, 2020.
