2018-19 Dallas Stars Learn to Play - NOW OPEN

Do not miss out on this amazing opportunity, spots fill up quickly!

What is Learn to Play???

Learning to play hockey is more than just learning a game. More than skating, passing and stick-handling, hockey is about responsibility, respect and teamwork. As children learn the skills needed to succeed on the ice, they also build and solidify important character traits needed to succeed off the ice. With that in mind, the Learn to Play initiative was developed jointly by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association to offer more families a chance to experience everything that makes youth hockey so rewarding.

Developed with the help of experts from USA Hockey and Hockey Canada, the Learn to Play initiative aims to be the gold standard for youth hockey programs with the goal of inspiring more families to join the hockey community. Learn to Play changes the way youth hockey is offered by providing first time participants, head-to-toe equipment, weekly sessions of age appropriate on-ice instruction and certified coaching, led by National Hockey League Alumni, in a fun and safe atmosphere. Learn to Play on-ice instruction plans have been developed in collaboration with experts from USA Hockey and Hockey Canada and taught by certified instructors and led by National Hockey League Alumni.

Program Fees

The program provides head-to-toe equipment for your child to keep as they continue exploring youth hockey. There is a participation fee associated with the program which may vary by facility and market.

Additional Program Information

  • This program is designed for first-time players only.
  • If your child does not know how to skate, we highly recommend you sign up for a "Learn to Skate" class at a local rink. Most of the participating rinks have these programs.

Adult Hockey League Registration Now Open

By AHAI 07/20/2018, 2:15pm CDT

Registration now open for the 2018-19 adult hockey season

Amarillo Adult Summer Update

The 2018-19 hockey season is quickly approaching. The ice will be available by August 23rd, or sooner. Hockey is growing tremendously in the Panhandle, including the adult leagues. Our goal is to field four B League teams, and four A League teams this season. Each team will be affiliated and play back-to-back on the same nights. For example: The Wranglers B team will play the Gorillas B team, directly followed by the Wranglers A team vs. the Gorillas A team. This will make scheduling, referees, score keepers, goaltenders and player movement a lot more accessible on a night to night basis. If the A teams need players to fill their roster, the B affiliated players will be in the arena and ready to go.

Each player is responsible for selecting the level they want to play at (A or B). There will be no extra charge for B players playing as an affiliate in the A league. There is also no guarantee that an A team will need B affiliates either. The Amarillo Hockey Operations board reserves the right to make any roster changes necessary, at any time if it is in the best interest of the leagues.

Here is some important information, so please read carefully and understand the timeline and deadlines for registration and other events.

A League season fee: $600

B League season fee: $600

Fee includes:

  • Draft party
  • 25 Games
  • Minimum of 2 playoff games
  • Team Jersey and socks
  • Stats, standings and live scoring
  • Post season awards party
  • Each league will have their own trophy (Keg Cup)

The deadline to register is: AUGUST 15th, 2018

To register click on the link: REGISTER NOW!

We will use the same format for the draft as last season for the A league. The B league will start from scratch since we are adding two new teams.

  • The A league draft will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd
  • The B league draft will be held on Monday, August 27th

Location: TBD. We will send an email with more draft details after the registration deadline.

Adult Learn to Play

We are very excited to announce our new Adult Learn to Play pilot program. Amarillo will be the first rink in Texas to simulate the Dallas Stars Youth Learn to Play program. A separate flier and information letter will be sent out with all the details. We are expecting 12-30 new players that will transition into the B league this season.

Adult Drop In

The Bulls will place drop in hockey on the monthly Civic Center schedule as the availability of ice permits. Each session will cost $10 and will be cash only. We will not be pre-selling punch cards this season. The schedule will be updated monthly on Sport Engine and on the Bulls website.

We appreciate your dedication and commitment to hockey in Amarillo! We are very excited to start a new chapter, with more teams, and more players. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Program Director, Austin Sutter.
