Former Big Texan Bulls represents Amarillo Hockey on the national stage

ST. LOUIS, MO – The Big Texan Bulls varsity team captain, league MVP and recipient of the Pride and Purpose trophy, Vincent Petrey was selected to represent Team Texas at the America’s Showcase in St. Louis, MO last weekend. Team Texas is made of the top high school hockey players in the state, who participate against the best players from each state in a tournament showcase. This was Petey’s second season participating in the tournament.

Team Texas went 3 – 0 to start the weekend defeating the District of Columbia, Florida and Arizona. They advanced to the quarter final and lost a tight game to team Illinois by the score of 6 to 3.

Petrey was 4th on the team in scoring and 3rd in Assist. He registered 1 goal and 2 assists in 4 games played. The star player from Amarillo received a lot of attention from junior and college coaches and scouts from around North America, including teams in the North American Hockey League (same league the Amarillo Bulls play in).

“Vinny was like a linebacker, running over his opponents and playing with an edge in his game. He fiercely drove to the front of the net and played a fearless style in the corners”, says Team Texas Assistant Coach, Knute Anderson.

This is the first time a player from the Amarillo Hockey Association has represented Team Texas at the America’s Showcase.

“We are incredibly proud of Vincent’s accomplishments this season. He is a special player who has been committed to our program since he was a Mite. He has proven that our development model and coaching is working. He is an inspiration to all the other athletes in our program, that share the same dreams he does. Vincent has shown that Amarillo Hockey can produce players of elite caliber, able to participate at the national level. I will miss coaching him, but we know Vinny will move on to do great things and we wish him the best of luck in his future”, says Austin Sutter, the Program Director for AHAI, and Head Coach of the Big Texan Bulls Varsity team.

AHAI is dedicated to developing and moving their athletes on to play at the highest levels possible. We strive to offer an elite training and skating program that dedicates enough ice time, competition and coaching to play hockey at the junior and college levels after graduating from our High School program.
