The Amarillo Ice Ranch will be the future home to AHAI...

AMARILLO, TX- Having a community ice rink in Amarillo has been discussed for well over a decade. The Amarillo Hockey Association (AHAI) is pleased to announce that they have created Amarillo Ice Ranch, Inc. to construct and operate a year-round ice rink facility in the city-owned warehouse building at 301 S. Grant street in downtown Amarillo.

Chris Wright will serve as the initial President of AIR, Inc. and with other directors to be appointed in the coming weeks. Austin Sutter will serve as the General Manager and Eric Andersen as the Facility Manager.

“I am excited and honored to be a part of this historic event.  The City Council and staff have been wonderful partners in this negotiation, and we are looking forward to being a part of what we anticipate is a bright future for the downtown sports scene in Amarillo for years to come.  I am especially happy that we will have a facility that will be able to serve all of our community rather than just the hockey community.”, explains the President of the Ice Ranch, Chris Wright.

The Ice Ranch will not only serve the hockey community but will also be a community skating center that will offer ice-sports programming, public skating, private parties, charity events, school programs, and international summer camps.

“We are blessed and overly excited for our community. The Ice Ranch will positively impact many kids and families for years to come. This will be life changing for the many people who are already invested in ice-sports here in Amarillo and the surrounding area. Our team has worked incredibly hard to make this happen and I couldn’t thank them enough for the many years of dedication, persistence and belief they have shown our organization.”, expresses Austin Sutter, the Executive Director of AHAI and General Manager of the Ice Ranch.

“This is a special day for hockey in West Texas, specifically in Amarillo. The Ice Ranch will have a state-of-the-art ice technology system that will be very energy efficient. The Ice Ranch will be the proud host of year-round ice events and hockey programs. The hockey community should be very proud of all the hard work that has been put in to reach this goal.”, says Eric Andersen who serves as the Ice Ranch Facility Manager and AHAI’s Hockey Director.

The Ice Ranch will provide a foundation for ice sports and activities to exponentially grow with no limitations. Specific to hockey and figure skating, AHAI will now be able to host many more grass-root programs to build these activities at the youth and adult levels. Spring and summer programming will also help increase participation as well as offer our local athletes the ability to train year-round. This will give local kids the opportunity to obtain scholarships and use hockey and ice skating to create new opportunities for very successful futures on and off the ice.

“Our dream has finally come true for AHAI and our affiliates. Our organization has dedicated countless time over the past decade to enable our dream to come to fruition. We are most proud to provide an opportunity to make a difference for the youth in Amarillo and surrounding areas.”, elaborates The President of AHAI, Jason Chafe.

The Ice Ranch is expected to be completed in the winter of 2020. If you would like more information on registering for our hockey or skating programs for next season, please visit www.amarillohockey.com.
