Thank you for a terrific season. We have accomplished many of our goals and have introduced this great game to many new players and their families. I thank you for your continued support and dedication to making our program grow and develop to where we want it to be. The season guideline has us scheduled to end our season on March 31st.
We are going to have one last game for each division in April to end out the hockey year. The last event will be a free pizza party for all families involved with AHAI. I encourage you to bring your friends as this is a great opportunity to introduce hockey to new kids. Parents and siblings are welcomed to skate, as the skate shack will be available. This event will be free of charge.
Picture Day
Please remember that pictures will be at Medi-park on March 31st. This starts at 10:00am. Please do not stress about buying dress clothes. I just want us to look as good as possible. I encourage you to be creative and use props like first goal pucks, skates etc…
Family Day
This is a free event sponsored and paid for by AHAI. Please come enjoy the Saturday with your family and friends. This is the last scheduled ice session of the year. Parents who want to participate in the Parents vs. Players game must wear a helmet to participate. Shoes may be used in the case that you do not feel comfortable skating.
Summer Events
The Bulls will be putting on a summer long off/ice skill development and conditioning camp. Detailed information will be released soon. Please stay tuned for further announcements for summer fundraising opportunities.
Travel Hockey
I am uncertain about the status of our travel program next season. Our numbers look great to be able to fully participate in every age group next season. I encourage you to look at what AHAI offers before you make commitments to other associations. I am pursuing the idea of joining a league and I will keep you all updated as progress is made. We are ready to take the next step and solidify our program to the likes of Odessa and El Paso.
I understand that some will be upset with the schedule or lack of schedule for April. Please understand that we started in August. We have a very long season compared to all other youth sports in our city. I have noticed tired players and tired attitudes. The coaches and myself think it is best for the association to wrap things up.
Go Bulls Go!!!
Dear Parents/ Players:
We have a month and possibly two more weeks in April that we will have access to the ice at the Civic Center. March is a full month with lots of days available to skate. I am excited about this month as we have lots going on. Here is the break down:
House:
I have scheduled more games this month than what we have had in the past. I believe now is the time to display the skills that we have learned all season and apply them to a game situation. I will decide on the roster for each team. These rosters will be decided before the game starts based on who is there each night. It is important that our players are still working on skill sets at home and continuing their personal development as a hockey player.
Travel:
It’s been a very frustrating second half of our travel season. We have a shortage of PW and Bantam B teams that are committed to traveling throughout the entire Rocky Mountain District of USA Hockey (TX, NM, CO and OK). Spring break is being occupied by league playoffs and is resulting in no competition for our players in Amarillo. I am still working on setting up a possible exhibition weekend with Odessa. Details will be revealed as soon as possible. I encourage all of you to take full advantage of other teams looking for players. If you want information I can pass it along.
Skate-A-Thon:
I am thrilled to be a part of a great event involving Make-A-Wish and AHAI. I ask that all of you in some way can help contribute to this event. We really want to make this a valuable fundraiser and make it worth our time and energy to put it on. Please take an evening this week to help your child collect pledges from friends and family. Our children need to understand the value of giving back, not only to youth hockey, but to a charity that creates miracles for other children in our community. I ask that all house players raise $15.00 to participate. I ask that all travel players raise $40.00 per player. This is travel homework. If you can not attend the actual skate, I ask that you still raise pledges. Please express to your child that the prizes are very valuable and worth every effort to raise as much money as possible. This package contains rules and pledge forms to be printed below.
Picture Day: The Red, Gold and Green groups will have their pictures taken on the ice at the Civic Center, dressed in full hockey equipment at 8:00 am on March 17th. Practice will be provided on half of the ice, while the other half will be occupied for pictures.
The PW, Bantam and Midgets will have their team and individual pictures taken at Medi-Park in Amarillo on March 31st at 10:00 am. Players will be required to wear their red travel uniforms with a dress shirt and tie under their jersey. Dress pants or slacks are required along with a nice pair of shoes. Players must also bring their hockey stick and gloves for individual pictures. You may also bring other props (ex. skates over shoulders, first goal puck..)
Picture packages will be available through Jim Peak Photography.
Bulls Camp:
Due to popular demand we have decided to offer two more sessions of Bulls Camp. If you pre register with me through email you will receive a discount.
$30.00 per session
$50.00 to pre-register for both sessions
Please pay with cash. This camp is available for all ages and ability.
Thank you,
Coach Sutter
January 28, 2012
Dear Parents/ Players,
House Update:
January has breezed by and we are about to start another exciting month of youth hockey. The February ice schedule has been generous and will allow us to have another month with a lot of ice for practice and games. Our association has grown. I had to make changes to our regular structured routine. We have had an emergence of squirt aged players that have been sharing a practice with the Pee Wee team. I created a way to allow the Squirts to have their own identity. The new structure will permit the squirts to age specific practice plans and better competition to advance their skills and abilities. This was a great problem to have. I am happy with our expansion, and will keep making changes to accommodate our players and their families. The new roster that I decided on, with help from the assistant coaches, is posted on page 3. You will notice that the younger groups are labeled Red, Gold and Green. This is to keep the kids from comparing what “division” they are in. We have a unique variety of ages and abilities. These groups have been professionally designed to give your child the best opportunity to develop as a hockey player. If your child is on (2) roster spots it is not a mistake. If your child is not on a roster, please call me at 806-670-7577 and I will assign them to a team.
Travel Update:
I registered our PW team well in advance for the Presidents Day tournament in Dallas, TX. The tournament director called and informed me that we are the only PW B team to register, and they decided to cancel the tournament. I got our foot in the door with a few Denver, CO tournaments on the same weekend. We have (9) Skaters and (1) goalie signed up. That is not enough to complete a roster. I have decided to not travel this month. If you want to travel, there will be no problem joining a team in a different association. We will travel in March during spring break. We have been invited to several events. I am leaning towards Albuquerque, Denver, Dallas or Taos. I will collect all the details for each. Each family will have (1) vote and we will travel to tournament most voted for. We have had many new bantam aged players register. I am working diligently to find a tournament for this group.
Congratulations:
The Pee-Wee Sonic Bulls won their first tournament of the season! I am proud to say that our team was undefeated in tournament play (2-3-0). It makes me happy to see that their hard work and efforts have paid off. This is the first time that this age group has won a tournament. I expect many more championships in the years to come from this team. I want to congratulate the association for having a very successful first ever hockey tournament, hosted by Amarillo. Together we pulled off a professional, fun, and rewarding hockey experience. I have received some amazing feedback from the guest teams. I look forward to growing this event significantly next season. Thank you for all of your hard work and efforts.
Bulls Camp:
Thank you to everyone who participated in the second Bulls clinics. These have been successful and rewarding for everyone. This camp has drastically improved the skills and abilities in all of our players that registered. The association has been in need of this for some time. Thank you to the Bulls players and coaching staff for stepping up and providing this opportunity for our kids. There are still (2) sessions remaining on January 30th and February 6th. The cost is $35 per session and is open to all ages and abilities.
Thank you,
Coach Sutter
