Update on Ice House and Travel Programs - Friday, August 06, 2010

Special notice from the AHAI Board:

We know that ice hockey in Amarillo has been off season for a while now, but if you have been checking our website you may have learned some exciting information. We have been working on ice and in-line hockey plans. AHAI wants to build our program stronger and better than ever.

Eddie Francis has been working with USA Hockey to bring a coaching clinic to Amarillo on the weekend of September 10th. This will be the last year that you can earn coaching certification levels 1 thru 3 all in one weekend. If you are interested, Please contact Eddie Francis for help in getting registered for the clinic, cell# 220-6843.

The Amarillo Hockey Association is proud to announce Austin Sutter as the AHAI House and Travel Ice Coordinator. TJ Wiechec will assist Austin during the upcoming season. Austin will be implementing the Canadian youth ice training program that is their proven foundation for building skills in young athletes at all ages of and levels of play. Austin Sutter is well respected by Amarillo and is placing his roots in our city. He has committed his vast knowledge and skills to our program and we are so very happy to have him on board. Our program will only get better with Austin in charge of ice. If you have not been involved before and would like to become more involved in the house level of ice; coaching, ref or age level director, please contact Austin or Marilyn.

Marilyn Welborn and Sean Slover met with the Amarillo Bulls. We are considering taking on the Bulls names and logo on our ice jerseys in the form of take home jerseys at the end of each season. We may also be using their logo on the travel teams jerseys as well. AHAI has decided to once again bring the travel teams back under the supervision of AHAI to help with Austin's training program. This will help with consistency in your child's training as well as any unforeseen schedule conflicts during the season.

In-Line hockey. We have a building committee that is getting closer all the time to making a dream reality. One local businessman, who also has a strong interest in making hockey for our kids a long term reality, is very interested in helping out. We are looking at having a brand new building at a possible size of 120'x200'. We don't want to discuss "who" the businessman is at this point, that is not important. What is important is that we are closer now than what we ever have been in the past. We need your help locating at least 3-6 acres of land just outside the city. The location will help with the overall up front cost of the building not being inside the city limits. We can not move forward without land in place. Do you have a connection for land? If so, please contact Eddie-220-6843, Sean-220-1030, Russell-674-1696 or Kenneth Creamer. When this happens, not if, we will depend on our AHAI family to help with various tasks including the movement and set up of equipment and possibly some finish work inside of the new building. We know that with the new building will also come new interest into the program and we will depend on you to help us build our numbers and fill this new building with more players and more teams.

This factual information should help dispel any rumors and get you up to date on what is going on inside of your hockey association, AHAI, Inc. We would like to point out we have an ongoing working relationship with the new NAHL team and they have plans to be involved in our house level ice teams on a regular basis.

Thank You!

AHAI Board

House an Amarillo Bulls Player - Friday, July 02, 2010

The Amarillo Bulls will be bringing recruited players from across the United States and Canada for the hockey club. The club will incorporate hockey, educational and social experiences into all aspects of their programs. The welfare of the players chosen for the Bulls is paramount in terms of their personal well-being and growth as sportsmen. In order to achieve the stated outcomes, it is imperative that the player(s) are appropriately accommodated during their time away from home. Billeting provides a basis for the players to live with other families and to experience and build an understanding of differing values and beliefs. Through billeting, players are actively involved in the society and culture of Amarillo and they shall act as ambassadors for the hockey club at all times.
